Halloween Witch Costumes

I can think of no less than five versions of the Chronicles of Narnia that have been released as movies.  This timeless tale has it all.  It has action, adventure, and heroics.  But most of all, it has mythology.  And foremost in that mythology is that most timeless of villains, the witch.

In this climate, it is no wonder that one of the most popular Halloween costumes is the witch costume.  Don’t get me wrong.  I know that witch costumes have been popular forever.  Although their popularity may wax and wain, you are never out of fashion with the witch costume at Halloween.

The great thing about witch costumes is that they really push the envelope in terms of what you can wear with the children. Everyone secretly wants to be a ghost or a ghoul, but when you are with young children, you have to be careful or else you might scare them.

Although a scarier costume might get you into trouble, you can always get away with a witch costume if you have your heart set on playing a villain. And who does not want to be a villain now and then?

Of course, the witch costume is far from the most clever Chronicles of Narnia costume, but it is the most simple. If you want to make your own costume and have never done such a thing before, you had best stay far away from centaurs and fauns.  You will end up at your costume party without anything at all to wear!

The key to a really good witch costume is to not overdo it. This is easier said than done. There is a great temptation to go overboard with the big black hat, several warts, a robe, ugly blunt toed shoes, and the rest. But I always say that if you want to dress like a witch, do it with class.

Have a nose that is not too gigantically large, a hat that might just be a womans hat, and shoes that almost look normal.  The best witch costume will make you look like a witch that is hiding out and trying to act like a normal person. That way, people will be all the more excited to spot you and see that you are really a witch.

That sort of witch costume will make you much more interesting for all of the people around you.Happy Halloween

Disney Princess Fancy Dress Costumes

Just about every little girl loves fancy dress costumes. Even girls as young as two years old appreciate dress-up gowns for little ones. My three-year-old niece loves dressing up in different colorful outfits and she has been doing it for about a year, too. This is why I decided that the perfect Christmas gift for her would be fancy dress costumes.

Since Halloween comes only once each year I know that little girls wait and wait to wear fancy dress costumes. However, Halloween isn’t the only time of year that these dressy outfits for kids are popular. My niece loves to dress up whenever and wherever she can.

Little girls love sparkle and lace. Shimmering silky fabrics as well as feathers and fur are popular as well. My niece adores things that feel nice and soft so I found great accessories for the fancy dress costumes, too. The great thing about the whole wonderful process is that I found them all at one place.

Disney characters are all the rage for girls of all ages. The princess collection is adored by many kids across the globe. One of the biggest fans of Disney fancy dress costumes is my little niece. She knows each character and I think that she favors Snow White on some days and Belle on others.

I was browsing through a J C Penny’s catalogue and I found two great Christmas gifts for girls. Both items included fancy dress costumes that just about any kid would love. The first is a treasure chest filled with great goodies. The second is a Disney princess collection to die for.

The Disney princess fancy dress costumes include three popular gowns associated with three very special characters. The first is Cinderella’s blue and silver ball gown that she wore to the famous dance. It is remarkably similar to the one in the movie and the details are absolutely beautiful.

The second in the Disney collection is Sleeping Beauty’s pink gown. This beautiful fancy dress costume is magnificent and there is a little broach on each dress that has a picture of the princess. This gown makes me wish that they had these when I was a kid.

The final children’s gown in this princess treasure chest is Snow White. I am amazed by how much this little dress looks like the one in the movie. I tend to favor this one out of all of the fancy dress costumes because of the bright, beautiful colors. I also think that it will be a favorite for my niece, too.

Buying Or Renting From Costume Shops

If you’re looking for something to wear to a Halloween or theme party, you need to find out where the costume shops are located. Sometimes, specialty stores open for holiday seasons and close when the season comes to an end.

Halloween costume shops are well-known for that habit. They may open at the end of summer and close at the end of November. After Halloween, most of the costume shops have great deals that you can take advantage of for the following year. A lot of parents will do exactly that for their children.

Some costume shops actually have rentals that are available. If you are heading to a theme party for a special event or reason, you may want to look into renting a costume. A few years back, my husband and I were invited to a murder mystery dinner for his company.

Each employee and spouse was assigned a specific character and you were to arrive in costume. Well, we searched high and low at various costume shops to find something appropriate and everything was either too expensive or not what we were hoping to find. Had we purchased the costumes, it would have cost over $100.

One of the costume shops we had searched offered to rent us the costumes for half of that cost. We didn’t even hesitate to agree to their offer. Most of the other costume shops that we had visited never even mentioned that choice.

Costume shops aren’t always just for Halloween and parties. Adults who would like to find costumes for other means of activity can have a great deal of luck in their searches. Children who idolize a superhero can find silly and wonderful capes and magic wands that they can use in everyday play.

I purchased my daughter purchased a princess outfit as a Christmas gift a few years ago simply because she loved to dress up. Well, the entire outfit with its glittered magic wand was a dream come true for her. For weeks she wanted to wear it everywhere we went. She adored it.

When Spiderman first hit the theaters, my son wanted anything and everything to do with Spiderman. My husband got him an entire outfit for a great price and he too lived in that outfit for weeks. Costume shops are always a good source for finding means of entertaining your children, letting your imagination go wild and stepping into the role of a new character.

Don’t be afraid to let your imagination take you to new places. You just may enjoy it.

Holding a Costume Party

Having twenty little six-year olds racing through my house was not exactly something that I’d wanted to do with my weekend. But, it was my daughter’s birthday and she’d wanted to have a princess party. I had not been able to say no.

So, my sister-in-law and my husband and I decided to chaperone a princess costume party and try to keep the house from being destroyed. She’d send out invitations telling her little friends that it was her birthday and that she was having a princess costume party.

All of the other girls seemed incredibly thrilled about it and I’m certain that their mothers were happy to have an evening to themselves.

For my daughter, having a costume party was a dream come true. If she had it her way, she’d live in her dress-up clothes. I won’t allow her to wear them to school, but she puts them on once she gets home. She’s even worn them to the mall and restaurants before. I’m not about to complain - she looks adorable as a little princess and it makes her happy.

I could tell from glancing at some of the other girls’ costumes, that their mothers had improvised princess costumes for them. They all looked absolutely adorable. It was her best birthday party ever, she had informed me afterwards.

Having a costume party isn’t just something that goes over as a huge hit for children. Adults sometimes love the opportunity to feel young and playful again, doing something that is out of the ordinary for them. Halloween is an excellent time to have a costume party, of course, but don’t limit yourself to just that holiday. It might be incredibly fun to get an invitation to a costume party at any time of the year.

Your costume party could have a theme, encouraging everyone to dress from a certain time period or a particular character. Having a costume party doesn’t have to cost very much money or require much work to organize. You don’t even have to send invitations. Call your friends on the phone to invite them or send email invitations.

One of the most fun and eventful costume parties that I’d been to was actually a murder mystery. I received an invitation that assigned me a certain personality and character, and I had to dress for the part. The party ended up being so much fun.

Everyone who attended absolutely loved doing something so out of the ordinary. Throw a costume party and see for yourself.

Costume Accessories

Well, it looks like tomorrow night is the night. I hate to admit it, but it looks like the end is near. I can feel the hot breath of evil burning my neck as the moon grows full. What will we do on this frightful occasion? How will we escape the madness of angry spirits, haunting ghouls, demonic creatures, and ruthless creatures galore?

In no time at all they will be frolicking blissfully throughout the streets, their sights set on home after home, and then they’ll be right upon your doorstep. What will you do? Hey, I’ve got an idea. Just give them some CANDY! That’s all they want. Once you hand it over, they’ll skip off with a smile stretched from ear to ear.

I should know, I will be accompanying one of these little terrors tomorrow night, on Halloween. Now, I must gather the costume accessories and flashlights.

We are missing out! Am I wrong here or what? Who ever said that we adults can’t go trick-or-treating? May be I want to bust out some costume accessories and a plastic sword to hit up all the neighbors for booty. That’s loot, if you didn’t already know. Yep, pirate talk.

Anyway, it just seems a bit biased to not let us parents gather as much candy as possible too. We need the sugar rush and vast selection of chocolate just like any kid does. What’s your take on this? I noticed that my 15 year old daughter was trick-or-treating a few years back and some neighbors got annoyed. What is this about?

Are you telling me there is suddenly an age discrepancy with trick-or-treating? Give me a break. I tell you what; folks have gotten cheap or lame or both as the years have passed. I will pass out candy to anyone who steps up to my door in a costume on Halloween. It’s but one night out of the year.

Ah, the costume thing. This very well might be the best part of All Hallows Eve. It’s sort of a toss up between the costume accessories and the candy. However, I may have to choose the masks and costume accessories simply for escape reasons.

These guises offer us a wonderful way to escape our redundant regime. Seeing that it only comes one out of 365 days in the year, I would take full advantage of it. Have an utter blast on Halloween!
