Selecting That Special Prom Dress
The time to get your first formal dress has finally come. Whether you have it created specially for you or buy it, there are some critical things to bear in mind. First, is the weather (and the heating or air conditioning of the hall in which the prom is being held). You do not want a thin chiffon costume if it is likely to be cold, and you don’t want to be wearing velvet if very hot. Which emphasises the most crucial thing. Wear something you are comfortable in.
Next, consider the design. This should flatter your figure and heighten your personality. If you have an outgoing personality. If you like meeting people and being the centre of attention, then look for something slightly fussy. But remember that you are likely to be photographed so don’t be too outrageous. You don’t want your children to be able to use them as ammunitiion to get what they want in the future. If you tend to be more shy, then look for something elegant and tasteful. Choose a style in which you can be comfortable.
When choosing a style for your formal prom gown, you should also look carefully and honestly at your figure. Very few of us have a perfect figure, most have at least a few pounds somewhere that they wish they didn’t have. Don’t assume that you can reduce your weight by prom night - That is always unlikely to happen. Instead, find a dress which will compliment your assets and hide those extra inches. If you are on the heavy side, don’t wear tight clothes, frills and flounces will only tend to draw attention to your inperfections so don’t wear them. Do not wear a tight or very low cut dress if you are large on top, it will do you no favours. You want to look glamorous on your special night, so don’t adopt the edict of ‘If you have it - Flaunt it. That does not apply on prom night and is only likely to embarass you.One other thing, if you fancy a striped material, make sure the stripes go the correct way. Vertical stripes make you look slimmer, Crosswise stripes make you look shorter and fatter. Stripes can be a good way of hiding the fact that your hips are large or that you are challenged in the bust department.
You can enhance your skin tone and improve your overall looks by choosing the right color.Avoid Royal Blue if you have a very pale complexion, you will appear to be even paler. Also you will look insipid and fade into the background with very pale colors, and on this special evening that is the last thing you want to do. Deep pinks, greens and reds would look good. If you have a favorite color, try it. Pick out the color that best suits you.If you are a redhead, avoid oranges and reds, but greens shoulkd look really good on you.Wearing a dress the same color as your eyes can really work well.
Keep your options open as you select your dress. Don’t rule anything out until you have tried it. Enjoying wearing your prom costume is the most important thing of all. This is a special night and you should feel special. Look for something else if you don’t have that special feeling.
