The Industry of Clothing

Being in the fashion industry can be a stressful position. You have to do a lot of work to build up a legitimate career that you can make a living from. You may have to start small interning at big businesses or training local boutique. You may even be reduced to working for for the crazy lady who sells her handmade baby dresses and baby clothes online out of her attic. It may seem painful and tedious at the time, but once you have moved on to a new level of success it will be worth it. To escape the pain while doing the busy work, just keep the image of your fashion line being featured at fashion week in your mind.

In order to get noticed by people you will need good connections. Almost no one can succeed in this industry without good social networking. You have to go out to parties and get your name on the scene. Try interning for a bigger company to open up opportunities. You may spill coffee on a cute assistant who needs a date to a fashion event, or deliver laundry to a top name designer. Doing the small busy work will open the doors of fashion for you. Don’t just expect for fame to come your way. In addition to working hard, you have to make success know your name.
Another part of being successful with fashion is good training. If you want to be a designer, it is most likely that no one will give a hoot about your basement sewing machine. Occasionally the luck fellow will get by using pure talent alone, but going to fashion school is one of the easiest ways to rocket to the top. Design school will give you lasting techniques and set up work for you after college as well as provide you with very good credentials. Plus, you never know who you may meet while going to school. A famous French designer’s nephew may ask you out on a date and you could end up spending the summer in Paris, meeting the top people in the fashion industry.

Studying abroad is also something you should keep in mind. Moving far away from family and the environment you’re used to can be a big change, but the truth is that the core of fashion exists beyond our country. Places like Paris, Milan, Hong Kong and Amsterdam are where fashion truly exists. Just imagine all the opportunities that may befall you in those places.

Don’t be put off by all the work it takes to make I in fashion. If you are truly passionate about fashion, it will pay off in the end. Making it in the industry you love is such a great opportunity. If you get scared away from this, you run the risk of disliking your job and being unhappy. Do you want to spend your days dreaming of what might have happened if you had pursed your dream. Don’t be a victim of regret, go for your dreams. Fashion can be a difficult business, but with good connections and the right work ethic it is also easy to succeed.
